The first academic year 2005/2006 started in September 2005. The study duration of both study programmes has been set for three years. Full time form of study is being practised. The school year starts in September and it is divided into two terms. More than 50% of lessons is devoted to practical training. After defending a bachelor´s thesis and passing a final state exam, the graduates are awarded a Diploma of Higher Education and a Bachelor´s degree.

In accordance with the Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on universities and on amendment and supplement of other laws (the Law on universities), as amended by subsequent regulations (hereinafter referred to as “the Law”) the Statute of the Vysoká škola zdravotnická, o.p.s. the principal legal document of the university, which is specified with these basic data:
Within its long standing orientation the Vysoká škola zdravotnická, o.p.s. (hereinafter referred to as “the School”) proceeds from the long standing intention of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (hereinafter referred to as “the Ministry”) for the sphere of universities and includes the requirements of the World Health Organization for education of health workers aiming at recognition of the acquired education in the European Union countries and obtaining the Euro registration.
Standard study period is for three years, the study form is attendance one.
As a precondition for enrolment for study is graduation of the complete secondary education or the complete expert secondary education and successful passing the entrance examination. The precondition for study is as well as meeting the health criteria stipulated in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health and the legislation in force.
Applicants having the state citizenship of the Czech Republic or foreigners are enrolled to study to university.
As a part of the entrance proceedings to study within the study programs there is the entrance examination.
The invitation of the entrance proceedings, pursuant to Art. 5, par. 2, letter is: a) without the entrance examination is conditioned by the consent of the Chancellor. The entrance examination consists of a written examination.
A subject in the study plan has prescribed one of these three assessment methods and completion: Credit (C), oral university exam in the form of discussion (OE), examination (E).
For regular study graduation of the accredited study program it is necessary to meet these requirements:
Every term is divided into the teaching period, professional practice and examination term.
The teaching of the respective subjects may be organized in the form of:
lectures, tutorials, practical tutorials, seminars, consultations, professional practice, educational trips.
The attendance on the respective lectures is optional, on tutorials and seminars is compulsory.
Students are lectured by professors, senior lecturers, expert lecturers and experts from practice authorized by the Chancellor. For the purpose of ensuring the teaching organization the students are placed in the study groups. The study group for one study branch has no more than fifty students, the study group for practical teaching has no more than twelve students (always in respect to the selected workplace of the health facility).
The applicant becomes a student on the enrolment day into the study of the accredited study program of the university. The condition of the enrolment to the higher year is meeting the study plan conditions.
At his/her own request the student may interrupt the study for one year during the study.
The Chancellor decides on the study interruption. Within the study interruption period the person is not a student.
The repetition of the year during the study is permitted only once.
Within the repeated year the student enrols only the study subjects, which were assessed with the mark “Good” and “not satisfied”.
At the student´s request the Chancellor may permit the student a transfer form another university, where the student studied the same study branch of the accredited study program.
The credit is awarded by the teacher, who taught during the term the appropriate study subject, from which the credit is awarded.
The oral university exam in the form of discussion is particularly prescribed for the subjects having a practical character.

The Bachelor´s examination is consisted of the defence of the Bachelor´s work and of the oral examination from the subjects specified by the accredited study program.

Study programmes have been designed in a modular way in order to facilitate permeability inside the VŠZ and in co-operation with other higher schools. Study programmes have been designed in accordance with the transfer and accumulation function of the European Credit System (ECTS) so that interested students and academic staff are able to get through a part of an educational programme abroad. The VŠZ also prepares an extended foreign language syllabus, professionally oriented courses and specialised workshops taught in foreign languages.
Reinforcement of international character of activities and further development of our international co-operation is among our strategic goals. The school will keep using potential of EU subsidised programmes – Lifelong Education Programmes (LLP), EU Social Fund Programmes, Human Resources Development Programmes. In the LLP framework the school is going to support student and academic staff mobility. With the aim of extending its study offers it is going to realise multilateral projects with participation of three partner schools as a minimum.
It is our plan to extend existing co-operation with higher schools in Great Britain, in Austria and in the Slovak Republic in Erasmus Programme toward more EU countries. Our co-ordinators and staff acquired a lot of experience in international co-operation and in EU project framework oriented on multicultural aspects of nursing and particular groups of population nursing. The school is willing to use these projects as a part of efforts aimed at respecting principles of tolerance, equality and struggle against all forms of discrimination.
Students, academic staff and other personnel have been informed about international activities of our school on a regular basis through the web, with use of notice boards, during conferences and get-togethers devoted to international co-operation, during face-to-face meetings of co-ordinators and foreign partners and students.
The school will keep realising programmes of mobility on the basis of bilateral agreements among schools. The ECTS system will be used in order to evaluate and certify study results. Academic staff mobility will be supported as an important part of their professional career. The residential students and teachers will be offered universal assistance when acquiring information, materials, and in organisational matters. In the case of needs, language and culture habits training courses will be organised. The school will provide to the residential students with housing, buddies will be assigned to every student so to assist in solving all practical matters and integration into a student group. The same help and support will be offered to the residential teachers. The residential students are not asked to pay any school fees, their performance and results will be reviewed according to the same criteria (ECTS). At the end of a residential course the students will obtain all necessary documents about the progress and results of their studies.

The School does not provide the accommodation, but it supplies with three addresses of three accommodation facilities, which can provide accommodation at least to some students.
The School does not have its own boarding, but students have an offer from the nearby basic school canteen (lunch for CZK 45.-).
The building of the School is equipped as the easy-access one.
The health and social care – the School concludes the insurance policy for students up to 26 years, who are not employed (otherwise the insurance is reimbursed by the employer). The School´s insurance contract includes “the standard insurance of business activities”, that means the general liability insurance.
Scholarship is regulated by Scholarship rules (see www.vszdrav.cz/dokumenty_ke_stazeni).
The department supplies the students, interested persons in study and teachers the information, mediates the contact with authorities.
The School is situated in the vicinity of Prague´s centre. All the interested persons in study receives the information leaflet containing description of transport possibilities from the tram stop to the School.
In the firsts and second year the students are offered the subject Physical education and Sport.
At the School the Student´s Council works.

The school can be visited personally on the Days of Open Door. Our teachers will be ready to show you our facilities as well as to answer any of your questions.
It is very easy to find our school since it is very close to the centre of Prague. Coming by public transport it is best to go to the underground station “Anděl” (line B). From there it is only 1 stop by tram number 4, 7 9, 10 in the direction Řepy. The name of the tram stop is “Bertramka”. Pragueś famous sight “Bertramka” where Mozart used to stay, the hotel Mövenpick or the entrance to Strahov tunnel at Smíchov are very near the school, so these points might help you to find it when coming by car.
