General information about the college

The College of Nursing, o. p. s. at Duškova 7, Prague 5 provides university education in the non-surgical health fields of General Nursing, Midwifery and Radiology Assistance. As such, it is responding to the changes in education requirements for healthcare workers in non-surgical professions as determined by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic’s Act no. 96/2004 Coll. on non-surgical health professions. Our education is in line with EU directives and, in accordance with the resolution of the European Commission’s Internal Market Directorate General, graduates will have their qualification automatically recognised in EU countries.

On 21. 9. 2004, the college obtained state approval to begin operating after a successful accreditation on 15. 6. 2004, and the first academic year, 2005/2006 began in September 2005. For both fields, the length of study is three years. Students may study purely on-site. The study programmes are prepared in accordance with WHO and EU requirements and correspond to the demands made of the profession in the countries of the EU. After presentation of their bachelors dissertation and the successful completion of their final state examinations, graduates obtain the title ‘Bachelor’ (Bc.). Individual subjects in the study programme are arranged in modules and assigned credits in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System.

The Nursing study programme including the fields of General Nursing and Midwifery has all the attributes of modern nursing with an interdisciplinary and multi-profession nature. The programme encompasses healthy individuals and illnesses with an emphasis on a biopsychosocial viewpoint. Students are taught to make their own decisions based on their theoretical and practical knowledge and experience. More than 50% of the programme is dedicated to practical training and the teaching is founded on modern trends in these disciplines. It teaches students to make their own decisions.

The college is well-equipped for the theoretical and practical teaching of both fields – with professional study rooms, theory classrooms, a lecture hall, computer room with PCs connected to the internet and a library with extensive study literature. Professional work experience is undertaken for the most part in health and social care facilities in Prague. The college also co-operates with workplaces abroad (England, Germany) in exchange programmes.

A large number of renowned specialists take part in teaching – doctors and university-educated nurses. The college issues its own publications and the teachers who work for us are also active creatively and scientifically. Many important personalities are members of the college’s Academic Board.

The General Nursing and Midwifery study fields underwent a successful reaccreditation in the 2008/2009 academic year. A new study field of Radiological Assistance was begun in the 2009/2010 academic year.
